Skin Pigmentation


Skin pigmentation disorders are conditions that cause the skin to appear lighter or darker than normal, or blotchy and discolored.Pigmentation is due to the deposition of melanin which is a coloring matter. The melanin is produced by specialized cells called melanocytes.
Other pigmented terms include hyperpigmentation (too much pigment), hypopigmentation and underpigmentation (too little pigment), and depigmentation (loss of pigment).

Factors causing skin pigmentation:
 A. The internal disorders that cause pigmentation:
*Pregnancy 

*Menopause

*Deficiency of iron, calcium, Vitamins A, E & B complex results in patchy and spotty discolouration of the skin.

*Lack of Vitamin A results in thickening and darkening of the skin. 
 B. External factors:
*Excessive exposure to the sun — exposure to the sun without a shield,darkens the skin tone. The ultraviolet rays of the sun penetrate the skin and damage the skin cells also.

*Use of wrong cosmetics — certain make up products have chemical colours, creams that have mercury. These react adversely on the skin surface causing pigmentation.

*Oral medication — the drugs prescribed for high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, insomnia, birth control and acne have an unfavourable effect on the skin causing spot pigmentation. 

Remedies:
1) Protection from the sun: Always protect yourself from the sun. To protect yourself from tanning and pigmentation, use what we call a sun screen or sun block lotion even when indoors.

2.  Take 2 tablespoons of milk powder,, add a few drops of glycerine and apply it on the dark spots. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then rinse it off. After rinsing, if the skin feels dry, use a moisturising lotion.

3. Break a Vitamin E capsule and mix in a few drops of castor oil and apply on deeply pigmented areas.  

4. Crush 1 tsp. of almonds and add 1 tsp of oatmeal. Mix this with 2 tablespoons of honey or milk. Gently rub this granular paste in a circular motion on your face for a few minutes. This removes all dead skin. 

5. Grate the skin of a Papaya and mix half cup of fuller's earth/besan.Apply on the face; keep for 20 minutes. When dry, pat with water or milk and rinse off. You can use these scrubs and masks at least once a week. 

6. Grate some Raw Potato, squeeze the Juice out of it and apply on your face. Rinse off after 20 minutes. Its an excellent Skin Lightener. 

7.Mix some Orange Peel Powder with Raw Milk and make a thick paste and apply on your face. Rinse off after 20 minutes. Its a very good Skin Lightener. 

8. Apply some mashed Strawberry on your face and rinse off after 15 minutes to get lighter complexion.

9. Make a face pack out of Ground Almonds(Soaked Overnight) and Raw Milk or Cream and apply on your face. Rinse off after 20 minutes. 
 
10.In a bowl, combine equal parts of honey, turmeric,organic yogurt as well as lemon juice. Blend all the ingredients thoroughly and apply the resultant mixture on the affected skin. For maximum effectiveness this mixture should be left on to the skin for around 15 to 20 minutes, before being rinsed off with cold water.

11.  With the tip of the finger, apply some almond oil on to the affected areas of the skin. This oil should not be washed off within a short while and therefore, people generally apply it just before bedtime, so that it can stay on overnight.

12. As soon as you find uneven skin tone in patches, include supplements of iron and calcium with the advise of a doctor. Include one green leafy vegetable at least once a day. 

13. Include curd and paneer generously.

14. Avoid distress and anxiety as much as possible. Meditate for at least 15 minutes a day. 
        In addition to the remedies for pigmentation on the face that are mentioned above, it is very important to follow a regular skincare routine, which includes a regular exfoliation process. A proper diet is also very important for healthy and glowing skin and therefore, all people should eat a high amount of foods that contain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Drinking around 10 to 12 glasses of water a day is also known to be very helpful.
